It is hard to believe that we are already into the month of May and that the year is moving full steam ahead! So much has happened already and we are incredibly grateful for all the support we have received around the Vision 2020 initiative thus far.
With the Cape Epic long behind us, Joel, as part of his Big5 Challenge, has since completed the Iron Man, Two Oceans Ultra-Marathon and a gruelling swim from Robben Island to Bloubergstrand. Next up, and lastly, we face the gruelling and enormous task of the Comrades Marathon.
In between, surviving the Atlantic Ocean and Polly Shortts, we have made some great progress around our next few eye-testing projects. Together with the University of Johannesburg, we plan to conduct outreach missions every second week, both at the university and within the greater Johannesburg area. We are grateful for the continued partnership with UJ and their desire to impact the future leaders of our country.
On the fundraising side – a big thank you to Adam Brooke for his massive fundraising effort around the Two Oceans Marathon, as well as every other athlete that flew our colours high; and also to Greg Imbriolo who has also embarked on the Big5 Challenge! We couldn’t do it without your support.
As Joel continues to drive awareness for Vision 2020 by attempting to conquer the Comrades, a monumentous task and something he has never done before, our challenge to you is to take fundraising to the next level and sponsor LumoHawk a R100 per kilometre that he runs. Should you want to contribute please follow the link to our donation.
In closing, as we look to voting day this week, may we continue to believe in the future of our beautiful Rainbow nation and know that, as we aspire to positively impact the future generation, we are creating a better South Africa for all.
